DIY Face Mask

DIY Face Mask

With the holidays quickly approaching I thought I would share how I make face masks so you can create your own festive mask to wear to any and all of your gatherings!

What You’ll Need

  • Outside Fabric: A pattern or something fun to show the world your style
  • Inside Fabric: White or neutral color that you’ll know the inside so you aren’t putting the germs back on your face
  • A Sewing Machine: This tutorial does require a sewing machine.
  • A Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Thread: That matches your pattern!

Steps (watch the video below to see how it is done!)

  1. Cut out your fabric. You’ll need two of the outside fabric and two of the inside.

I used the “inside” pattern for both sides and didn’t use the outside one.
  2. Place the nice sides of the outside and inside fabric together. Use your sewing machine to stitch along the large curved edge only.
  3. Using the scissors, cut small slits into the seem without cutting the thread. This will help them turn out better.
  4. Take the outside fabric and the inside fabric and place them nice side to nice side.
  5. Sew the pieces together. On the sides of the mask, place an elastic at the top and bottom with the elastic sitting on the inside of the mask (when turned right side out they will be on the outside). Leave a 1-2 inch gap at the bottom of the mask to be able to turn it inside out.
  6. Clip off the corners where you have extra fabric and then turn the mask right side out, Make sure to poke out all the corners with your finger or a pencil.
  7. Where your 1-2 inch gap was fold over the fabric to tuck in the edges and sew this closed. Continue around the whole mask to further secure it and create a nice border.
  8. Clip off any extra string and voila!

I highly recommend giving the video below a watch to further explain/illustrate the instructions!
