Fall Cookies
One of this year’s many quarantine goals was/is getting better at decorating desserts. I can confidently say that I’m good at the making it taste great part of baking but decorating those tasty treats has needed some work. My biggest challenge this year was making my daughter’s 1st birthday cake and it came out great after lots of practice. I also took on the challenge for her party to make llama sugar cookies. Check out some pictures in this post.
After success on both those projects, I was perusing a favorite site of mine, Amazon.com, and came across a plethora of cookie cutters. Inspiration was endless. I reigned in my desire to purchase every single cookie cutter for every single holiday and bought these guys for the fall. I’ll handle buying the other holidays as they come.
I have two sets of favorite sugar cookie / royal icing recipes. The first is the easier, speedy, no fuss and still tastes good version. The second set of recipes does taste significantly better but is a ton of work and most of the time is not worth it to me. You choose based on what you’re up for!
EASY and tastes fine:

Icing: Sally’s Baking Addiction’s Royal Icing
HARD and tastes amazing:

Icing: Serious Eats’ Perfect Royal Icing
The key to success with decorating sugar cookies is patience. Set aside SEVERAL HOURS if you want them to really look great! It will be well worth it. I hope you enjoy really speedy cookie decorating videos as much as I do…
