Maple Hot Buttered Rum

Maple Hot Buttered Rum

Prepare yourself…this may be the best tasting cocktail I’ve ever made. I’ll be honest, I’m generally not a cocktail drinker unless you can barely tell there’s alcohol in something and this falls in that category.

As I was searching for an interesting fall cocktail to add to my repertoire, I came across this drink on Serious Eats.

It sounded like a very odd ingredient list to me and I was all for it. I also trust Serious Eats will all my culinary delights so I knew this weird flavor combo would be delightful.

I did change a couple things… removed the vanilla bean (because they are so expensive) and subbed vanilla extract. I thought it was a little weird to heat up the rum since wouldn’t that remove some alcohol? But I did decide I should heat the vanilla to remove the alcohol taste from that flavor.

My husband wasn’t a fan of the salt with this drink so if you tend to not like a salty/sweet combo then simply don’t worry about salting your glass. I will also mention that you need to drink this while it is hot. Once cooled, the butter gets a little weird. Not to worry – the drink is so good that you’ll be more than happy to drink it while still warm.
